The Gyro Project has officially landed on the Upper East Side, opening its Lexington Avenue outpost on June 23 and bringing its fast-fine spin on spit-roasted gyros and family-style rotisserie chicken to Manhattan. The new spot, at 1260 Lexington Avenue, clocks in at roughly 1,800 square feet, seats about 30 guests and is set up for dine-in, takeout and delivery.
Owners and childhood friends George Tenedios and Spiro Kokkosis marked opening day with a ribbon-cutting alongside neighbors and local clergy. Tenedios said the neighborhood "has such a strong sense of community" and that the team was eager to introduce their rotisserie chicken and Greek flavors to the city, as reported by The National Herald.
What’s on the menu
The Upper East Side menu leans on classic gyro pita wraps in chicken, pork and beef/lamb, along with platters served with rice, salad and pita. Traditional mezedes like tzatziki and hummus also make an appearance. Rounding things out are loaded Greek fries, the brand’s signature Greek frozen yogurt, and a family-style rotisserie chicken meant to feed about three to four people, according to QSR Magazine.
Hours, space and service
Per Estiator, the Upper East Side location is open daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and offers dine-in, takeout and delivery service. The brand also lists 1260 Lexington Avenue on its official locations page. The layout and hours are geared toward quick neighborhood lunches as well as family dinners.
Growth and background
The Gyro Project launched in Fort Lee, N.J., in July 2023 and has expanded quickly across New York and New Jersey under Tenedios and Kokkosis. Recent openings include locations in Northvale, Murray Hill, the Garment District, Midtown East, Hudson Yards (Taverna), the Upper West Side and Newark’s Gateway Center, and the brand says more Manhattan spots are in the works for Union Square, Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen, according to QSR Magazine.
For Upper East Siders, the newcomer adds another quick, Greek-focused option along Lexington and a family-style rotisserie chicken that is convenient for group meals. Local previews and community notices circulated ahead of the opening, and the chain’s own site carries the full list of locations and hours for those looking to place an order or arrange catering.
