The county notes that these units include licensed clinicians, peer specialists and crisis intervention staff who provide on-site assessments, help calm volatile situations and aim to avoid unnecessary hospital trips or arrests when police are called.

The Town of Los Gatos Operations Bureau lists SWAT, hostage negotiation and Crisis Intervention Team training among its patrol specialties, underscoring a focus on resolving critical incidents as safely as possible. The Campbell Police Department also maintains SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams that train specifically for barricade and hostage scenarios and are available to assist neighboring departments.
