Adam Hernandez, 36, will spend the rest of his life in prison after accepting a plea Friday in a Medina County courtroom for a 2025 shooting that killed two people and wounded a third. Hernandez received life in prison on two counts of murder and 15 years on an aggravated-assault charge, with the judge ordering all terms to run at the same time. Deputies said the victims were found on Aug. 1, 2025, at a rural property in the 200 block of County Road 4636 in Hondo.
Sentence And Plea
According to KSAT, Hernandez pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Medina County's 454th Judicial District Court. A court official told KSAT that the original capital-murder charge for multiple victims was dismissed as part of the plea deal, and the judge imposed concurrent prison terms.
Shooting And Investigation
Deputies responding to a report of suspicious activity just after midnight on Aug. 1 found three people with gunshot wounds, as reported by KTSA. A 52-year-old man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while a 59-year-old woman survived and was taken to a hospital. Investigators later located Hernandez and took him into custody without further incident, KTSA reported.
Prosecution's Move
The plea agreement closes a case that began with a capital-murder count and ends with murder convictions and an aggravated-assault term, a court official told KSAT. Because the sentences run concurrently, Hernandez will serve the life terms at the same time as the 15-year sentence.
Legal Note
Under Texas law, murder under Penal Code §19.02 is a first-degree felony that carries a possible punishment of five to 99 years or life in prison. Capital murder, which is reserved for certain aggravating circumstances, carries the most severe penalties under state law, according to the Texas Penal Code. By pleading to murder counts and accepting concurrent terms, Hernandez took the case off the capital track and removed the possibility of a death sentence.
