The morning commute through Mililani turned tragic on Tuesday, June 2, when a single-vehicle crash on Meheula Parkway near Keaolani Street left a 76-year-old woman dead and sent a 77-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition. The collision happened around 8:35 a.m., right in the middle of rush-hour traffic.
What police say about the collision
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the car was headed south on Meheula Parkway when the driver crossed a raised center median into the northbound lanes, continued onto the sidewalk and slammed into a tree. Both the 77-year-old driver and his 76-year-old passenger were seriously injured in the impact and were taken by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital.
Medical examiner's update and investigation
By Tuesday night, the Medical Examiner’s Office had notified HPD’s Vehicular Homicide Section that the passenger had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators say they do not yet know whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors, and the case remains under active investigation, as reported by Hawaii News Now.
Where this fits into Oahu's yearly toll
HPD has recorded the crash as Traffic Fatality No. 17 on Oahu so far this year, compared with 31 at the same time in 2025, according to the Honolulu Police Department. The Traffic Division's Vehicular Homicide Section continues to lead the investigation and has not released further details.
