A quiet Milledgeville block turned into a crime scene Friday after two people were found dead inside a home on North Richmond Street. Police are calling it an apparent murder-suicide that left a pregnant woman and her unborn child among the dead, as officers locked down the area and detectives worked the scene well into the afternoon.
What police say
The Milledgeville Police Department told WGXA that 33-year-old resident Jajuan Taylor shot and killed 31-year-old Briuna Hartry and her unborn child before turning the gun on himself. Investigators told the outlet that Hartry was about 33 weeks pregnant and that they believe the shootings happened sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. Officers were called to the 100 block of North Richmond Street around 10:15 a.m., and police said they are not searching for any additional suspects.
Autopsies and next steps
According to police, the bodies will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab in Macon for autopsies and forensic testing. The GBI operates a central crime lab in Macon that regularly conducts medicolegal examinations for death investigations across the region, which local departments often request; see the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for background. Detectives were expected to continue processing the North Richmond Street home throughout the afternoon.
