A Middleborough man is facing serious charges after an overnight stabbing that left another man badly hurt and sent detectives tracing a blood trail back to Miller Street early Monday morning.
Police say the victim showed up at a local emergency room at about 2:56 a.m. with serious but non-life-threatening stab wounds. Investigators quickly determined the injuries stemmed from an incident on Miller Street, then followed up at a nearby home where they ultimately took a suspect into custody.
Officers identified the suspect as 32-year-old Brandon Cain of Middleborough, who was arrested early Monday afternoon. He is facing charges including assault with intent to murder, five counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest, according to the Middleborough Police Department. Authorities reiterated that the victim’s injuries, while serious, are not considered life-threatening.
According to NBC10 Boston, Cain allegedly tried to bolt through a window at a Southwick Street residence when officers closed in. Police subdued him with a stun gun and, after a brief struggle, took him into custody Monday afternoon.
Arraignment and next steps
The Middleborough Police Department says Cain also had four outstanding default warrants. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Wareham District Court. As with all criminal cases, police emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Cain is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty in court.
