Bar Brucato, the amaro-driven restaurant perched above Brucato Spirits in San Francisco's Mission District, is calling last call after service on Saturday, June 20. The tasting-room-turned-restaurant, which debuted in spring 2025, quickly drew a following for its detailed amaro flights and a seasonal California menu with a distinctly Italian lean. The owners say they are stepping back to rebalance their time between the restaurant and the distillery and to spend more of it with family.
Co-owner Sierra Clark told her team on Tuesday that she teared up and urged staff to recognize what an incredible thing we built and move on, as reported by The San Francisco Standard. The outlet also named Bar Brucato one of its best new restaurants of 2025, a fast rise for a project that is now ending almost as quickly as it arrived.
The Brucatos opened the distillery and the upstairs restaurant in spring 2025 at 275 South Van Ness, turning a large Mission storefront into a combined tasting room and roughly 40-seat dining space, per the San Francisco Chronicle. The airy, plant-filled interior and amaro tasting flights drew strong local praise as a welcome addition to the neighborhood, according to Mission Local.
Distillery Stays Put As Upstairs Bar Closes
According to Brucato’s website, the distillery will remain in operation, and tours and distill-your-own-gin classes will continue. The maker side of the business is staying firmly in place even as the restaurant service winds down. The company’s Bar Brucato page still lists Adam Hall as Distillery Director and continues to promote tastings and limited releases, signaling that production and events at the Mission facility will carry on.
Owners Hit Pause, Space May Host Pop-Ups
The San Francisco Standard reports that the Clarks plan to take the summer off with their two daughters and are considering short-term uses for the upstairs room. Ideas on the table include pop-ups, guest bartenders and focused tasting events. The owners also have new releases in the works and recently celebrated a high-scoring result for their Oro y Fierro liqueur, a clear sign that the spirits business will remain their main focus as Bar Brucato wraps up restaurant operations.
