A Wednesday evening outing at a Muskogee County RV park ended in tragedy when a 21-year-old man died after jumping from a cliff into a quarry lake at Silver Canyon RV Ranch. Investigators identified him as Tavian Williams and say he never resurfaced after the jump. Emergency crews responded and search teams recovered his body the following morning.
According to KOKH, first responders were called to Silver Canyon RV Ranch around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday after witnesses reported that Williams went off a cliff into the water and did not come back up. The station reports search teams later found a body in roughly 22 feet of water on Thursday morning.
Quarry Setting And Safety Warnings
Per the Silver Canyon RV Ranch website, the property centers on a quarry lake and posts a clear warning that there is no lifeguard on duty at the quarry. The park, located at 8215 Oktaha Road in Muskogee, notes that swimming and water activities are strictly at visitors' own risk. Those conditions, including steep rock faces, submerged ledges and cold, deep water, make cliff jumping particularly hazardous even for confident swimmers.
Rescue And Recovery
Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigators and local emergency crews searched through the night and into Thursday morning before recovering Williams' body in about 22 feet of water, according to officials. Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the jump or how long rescue teams were in the water before the recovery.
A Familiar Danger
Cliff-jumping incidents have turned deadly before at Oklahoma recreation spots. News 9 covered a 2018 case at Lake Tenkiller in which a teen resurfaced briefly after a cliff jump and then went under. Officials routinely warn that hidden hazards and sudden depth changes can turn what looks like a quick thrill into a fatal plunge.
