What Police Say
According to ABC7 Chicago, officers were called to a home in the 2400-block of 175th Street just before 1:45 p.m., where they found a female who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and later died at the scene. The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, is conducting the inquiry. Neighborhood Context
The stretch of 175th Street has seen other gun incidents in recent years, including a 2025 drive-by that set off a three-car crash and sent two people to the hospital. Local reporting of that crash and earlier shots-fired calls underscores long-running safety concerns along the corridor, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not released the victim's identity or a motive and said no arrests have been announced as the probe continues. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force often assists suburban departments on serious cases across Cook County and can marshal extra resources for multi-jurisdictional investigations, according to NBC Chicago.
