A 40-year-old man who was stabbed in Minneapolis' North Loop has died, more than a month after the attack left him clinging to life. Police identified the victim as Andrew Craig. He was stabbed on May 20 and later died on June 22. Another man was also taken to the hospital after the confrontation on the western edge of downtown.
According to the Star Tribune, Craig was critically injured on May 20 and succumbed to his wounds on June 22. The outlet reports officers found two men with potentially life-threatening injuries at the scene, and that the surviving man, described as 54, suffered a “severe laceration” and is listed as possibly both a suspect and a victim. The case remains under investigation, no charges have been filed, and the incident has not been sent to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for charging consideration, the article says.
As first reported by KSTP, officers were called to the 100 block of Holden Street North around 7:30 p.m. on May 20, where emergency crews found both men. The station's initial account said the stabbing appeared to follow a fight that escalated.
Investigation and legal status
Sgt. Garrett Parten, a Minneapolis Police public information officer, told investigators preliminary information indicated the men had been in an “altercation,” according to the Star Tribune. Detectives say they are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses, and have released little additional detail about motive or what led to the violence. Officials have not announced any arrests or filed charges at this stage.
Neighborhood context
The North Loop, a dense stretch of converted warehouses, offices, restaurants and late-night venues, can be lively after dark, and even isolated disputes sometimes turn serious in tight blocks. An earlier Hoodline report on a North Loop stabbing this year noted how arguments in the neighborhood have led to serious injuries and police responses.
Police say the case remains under active investigation and ask that anyone with information contact the Minneapolis Police Department. This story will be updated if the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office or Minneapolis police release new details.
