North Portland is about to get loud in the best way as Juneteenth Oregon hits its 54th year this Saturday with the Clara Peoples Freedom Trail Parade and a free community festival. The celebration is set to pack in live music, guest speakers, family activities and a vendor marketplace that runs into the evening.
Organizers say the parade will step off at 11 a.m. from King Elementary and travel down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard into Lillis-Albina Park, where the festival runs from noon to 7 p.m., according to Travel Portland. The free public event is slated to feature cultural exhibits, a children’s area and a beer-and-wine garden for legal-age attendees.
Parade Route And Logistics
Lineup and staging are planned for the King School campus, with the parade heading south on MLK Jr. Boulevard before turning toward Lillis-Albina Park, where the main stage and vendor field will be set up. City event pages and vendor materials note shuttle service between the festival site and King School, along with designated vendor parking at Legacy Emanuel. Organizers are urging attendees to arrive early for parking and shuttle pickups. Maps and shuttle schedules are available through Portland Events and Film.
Who Is Headlining And Special Guests
This year’s grand marshal is Sylvia Fowles, a Naismith Hall of Famer who recently joined the Portland Fire coaching staff. Local performers on the bill include Calvin Walker, Bridge City Soul and Kirk Green, among others. The lineup and grand marshal announcement were highlighted in local coverage, and the Portland Fire roster confirms Fowles’ role with the new franchise; see KPTV and Portland Fire for details.
Volunteers, Vendors And Festival Details
Juneteenth Oregon is still taking volunteers and donations to support programming and community outreach, and the organizer’s site outlines the Miss Juneteenth Oregon pageant scholarships for Little, Teen and Miss categories, according to Juneteenth Oregon. Vendors are required to follow city permits and park rules, and the festival is scheduled rain or shine with on-site security and community resource booths. Volunteer signups, vendor rules and setup times are posted on the event vendor page at Eventeny.
If you are heading out this weekend, expect crowds and tight street parking, and consider taking transit, carpooling or showing up early if you want a good spot along the parade route. For full schedules, volunteer contacts and any last-minute updates, see local coverage from KOIN.
