An Oklahoma City police officer fired a weapon at a suspect who took off running from a scene Tuesday evening, according to police. The incident unfolded just before 7 p.m. along Northwest 10th Street between MacArthur Boulevard and Rockwell Avenue.
KOCO reported that an officer discharged a weapon as the suspect fled. Investigators said it was not immediately clear whether the person was hit by gunfire, and the station noted the situation remained a developing story while officers worked the scene.
Where it happened
several shootings in recent months have been documented along the NW 10th corridor, and local coverage has shown officers routinely canvassing the area after those incidents. A June 2 midafternoon shooting in the same stretch previously triggered a manhunt and had residents and reporters pointing to an increased law-enforcement presence in the neighborhood.
Investigation underway
KOCO reported that detectives were going door to door for witnesses and pulling surveillance footage in an effort to piece together exactly what happened. Police had not released a suspect description or confirmed any injuries, and officials continued to describe the case as an active, developing investigation.
Authorities also did not immediately release the officer’s name or say whether the officer had been placed on administrative leave. Investigators are expected to release more information as their work progresses.
