What Investigators Are Examining
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit typically reconstructs crash scenes and collects evidence after fatal traffic collisions, a process outlined in the department's public community alerts. Chicago Police Department notices also list contact information for the unit for anyone who may have seen something.
Street-Safety Concerns Flare Again
Advocates and local traffic trackers say crashes like Sunday's highlight ongoing safety concerns on Chicago's major streets while the city compiles monthly fatal-crash summaries. Streetsblog Chicago notes that CDOT publishes those monthly reports, which advocates often use to push for engineering tweaks and stricter enforcement.
Police have not released additional details about what might have led up to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521, according to Chicago Police Department notices. The department has not indicated whether any charges or citations will be issued as the investigation continues.
