One person was killed, and at least two others were injured, on Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on East Colonial Drive, according to authorities. The collision happened in the westbound inside lane at East Colonial Drive and Crescent Boulevard, near Alafaya Trail. Troopers said the crash involved a 2001 Ford F-150, a 2019 Genesis, and a 2015 Toyota Prius. The Prius driver died at the scene, while the occupants of the Genesis were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the F-150 driver was not hurt.
How Troopers Say the Chain-Reaction Crash Happened
According to WFTV, troopers said the F-150 had stopped for traffic ahead, with the Genesis and the Prius following in the inside westbound lane. The incident report states the Genesis slowed, the Prius failed to stop in time and hit the back of the Genesis, which was then pushed into the rear of the pickup.
Investigation and On-Scene Response
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is handling the death investigation, while the Florida Highway Patrol remains the lead agency on the crash probe. The driver and passenger of the Genesis were transported with injuries described as non-life-threatening, WFTV reports. Troopers said the F-150 driver stayed at the scene and was not injured.
Busy Corridor Adds to Disruption for Commuters
The intersection at East Colonial and Crescent sits along a heavily traveled stretch near the University of Central Florida and is a scheduled stop on local bus routes, which can heighten traffic headaches when serious crashes occur, according to LYNX. The Florida Highway Patrol investigates serious crashes on state roads, and its scene work can keep lanes closed for hours as troopers gather evidence, per the Florida Highway Patrol.
