Sirens cut through the dark over Ohio City early Wednesday as Cleveland police swarmed the Lakeview Terrace high-rise for a shooting investigation that stretched into the morning commute.
Officers rushed to the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority complex after reports of gunfire at the 19-story tower on Washington Avenue. Witnesses and early video showed a crowded parking lot packed with emergency vehicles and a heavy law-enforcement presence in the pre-dawn hours while investigators searched for evidence.
According to FOX 8, Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority police were seen combing the parking lot just before 4 a.m. One victim was taken from the scene, but officials have not yet released the person’s condition or any information about a possible suspect.
Where it happened
Lakeview Terrace is a Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority public-housing campus anchored by a 19-story high-rise at 2700 Washington Avenue, near West 25th Street. The development has long been a central part of the neighborhood’s housing stock and urban history, according to the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History.
Recent incidents and resident concerns
The complex has seen frequent police responses in recent years. In 2025, an incident near the Lakeview Terrace area left one person dead and another injured, according to News 5 Cleveland.
Earlier this spring, a blaze at the Lakeview high-rise prompted evacuations and raised questions about emergency dispatch.
What officials say
FOX 8 reported that investigators were still on scene Wednesday morning and that the investigation remains active. Authorities have not released additional details, and residents or anyone with information are urged to contact the Cleveland Division of Police.
