Pre-dawn gunfire on South Maryland Parkway near Flamingo Road early Monday left one person dead and Las Vegas police working a fresh homicide case on a busy corridor.
Officers called to the area just after 4 a.m. found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. That person was later pronounced dead, and a possible suspect was detained as detectives launched a full homicide investigation.
According to KTNV, police first received reports of gunfire before locating the victim. Metro confirmed the death, and a press briefing was expected later Monday morning that could shed more light on the suspect and any potential charges.
Recent Violence Near Maryland Parkway
The killing adds to a grim run of violence along Maryland Parkway this month. As reported by FOX5, a May 12 shooting inside a Smith’s supermarket on South Maryland Parkway left two people dead and led to a high-profile arrest.
Those cases have kept Metro homicide detectives busy as they work to reconstruct what happened in each incident and continue asking the public to share any video or eyewitness accounts that could help fill in the gaps.
What Investigators Are Asking
Metro’s Homicide Section is handling the latest investigation and is asking anyone with information, video or tips about the shooting to contact detectives. The tip lines and media contacts are listed on the department’s press releases page, maintained by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
According to the department, detectives typically hold briefings when they have verified information ready to share, so more official details could follow as the case develops.
