Four people were wounded in two separate early morning shootings on Cleveland’s east side Thursday, a burst of pre-dawn violence that unfolded in less than half an hour, according to emergency crews.
Shooting details
The overnight trouble started around 3:20 a.m. on Independence Road, just off Fleet Avenue in the Slavic Village neighborhood. Cleveland EMS said two men from that scene were taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Roughly 20 minutes later, crews were called to the 9500 block of Euclid Avenue, where they found two 17-year-old boys with gunshot wounds. One teen suffered serious injuries, and the other was in stable condition, Cleveland EMS said. 19 News reported it had reached out to Cleveland police for additional information, as reported by WOIO.
Neighborhood context
The Independence Road shooting hit a corridor that has already seen its share of trouble this spring. In March, Fleet Avenue gunfire left a man critically wounded in Slavic Village, Hoodline reported. That earlier coverage also noted that federal and local agencies had been active along parts of East 65th Street, contributing to a heavier police presence in the area.
Investigation
Cleveland police had not released any suspect descriptions or a possible motive as of early Thursday, and 19 News said it had reached out to the department for more information, per WOIO. Authorities have not yet said whether they believe the two shootings are connected.
