A quiet stretch of Redland farmland turned into a crime scene Friday morning when a man and a woman were found dead in a field in southwest Miami-Dade County, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriffs Office. Deputies were called out just after 8:30 a.m. to the 26100 block near Southwest 209th Avenue, where they discovered both bodies. One man was detained at the scene and remained in custody as the investigation continued.
According to NBC 6 South Florida, aerial footage from the station's Chopper6 showed a yellow tarp covering what appeared to be a body in the open field. The outlet reports the Miami-Dade Sheriffs Office released the initial information but has not identified the victims or disclosed how they died.
Where This Happened
The scene is in the Redland, a largely rural agricultural district south of Miami and northwest of Homestead that is known for farms, nurseries and roadside stands. As Visit Florida notes, the Redland is Miami-Dade County's last major farming corridor. County property records list the site as 26100 SW 209th Ave, according to the Miami-Dade Property Appraiser.
Investigation Ongoing
The Miami-Dade Sheriffs Office said detectives are investigating the deaths and confirmed that one person remains detained while the probe continues, NBC 6 South Florida reported. Officials have not released any additional details as the inquiry remains active.
