Early Friday on San Antonio's Northwest Side, a family watched in shock as a man was fatally shot inside their store while they monitored the scene on security cameras. The worker was on duty at the Classic Mart when someone opened fire, and relatives saw the violence play out on the live feed. Emergency crews rushed to the shop, but the man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
San Antonio police say the shooting happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the Classic Mart along Medical Drive near Fairhaven Street, according to KABB. Emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures for about 20 minutes, but the worker could not be revived, the station reports. Investigators say the suspect took off from the scene and detectives are still working to identify who pulled the trigger.
Northwest Side Already On Edge From Recent Shootings
This latest killing lands in a neighborhood that has already been on edge over late-night gun violence. On May 29, a teenager was left critically injured in a separate shooting on the Northwest Side, and neighborhood leaders have pushed for more patrols and outreach after a string of similar incidents, as reported in teen shot at Northwest Side house party.
Detectives told KABB they are working to determine whether the Classic Mart shooting started as an argument or as an attempted robbery, and they have asked the public to help fill in the blanks. Anyone with information or relevant video is urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department so investigators can follow up.
Surveillance Video Often Becomes The Break In The Case
Security footage has become one of the key tools for detectives, helping lock in timelines and track suspects or vehicles that might otherwise disappear into the night. In another Northwest Side case, investigators used store cameras and license plate footage to identify a suspect, highlighting how tips and recordings are followed up locally, as detailed in how police tracked the suspect with cameras.
