Sankranti Indian Kitchen is eyeing Buckhead for its next move, with a permit filing showing plans for a new outpost at 3420 Piedmont Road NE. The proposed build-out calls for a compact ground-floor restaurant with an outdoor dining area, and the paperwork notes that the space has not yet been constructed. If the project moves ahead, the fast-casual Indian concept would slot in alongside other quick-serve lunch options near Lenox.
According to What Now Atlanta, the permit details a roughly 1,560-square-foot ground-floor space at 3420 Piedmont Road NE that would seat about 43 diners and include outdoor seating. The filing indicates construction is still to come and does not list an opening date. What Now Atlanta also notes that the restaurant chain’s own website has additional Atlanta locations labeled as coming soon.
Sankranti's footprint and recent history
Sankranti's official locations page now flags both a Buckhead address and a Downtown Piedmont address as “coming soon,” language the brand appears to use for planned openings. Sankranti lists Tech Square as the company’s open location, and local reporting indicates that the Tech Square unit debuted in early December 2023. Dish Around Town covered the Tech Square launch and its menu setup.
Where the Buckhead space sits
The 3420 Piedmont Road NE address sits at the Lenox and Piedmont intersection in Buckhead and is marketed as small-format retail space suited to quick-service concepts. Commercial property listings show retail suites at that location and outline available footprints in the surrounding area, which is a short walk from Lenox Square. Property data pages that catalog the building help clarify how a 1,560-square-foot restaurant could fit into the site’s available retail configuration.
Why Buckhead matters
Buckhead’s daytime crowd of shoppers, office workers and Lenox visitors makes the neighborhood a natural magnet for fast-casual lunch spots, and build-your-own Indian bowls have become a growing niche across Atlanta. Local food coverage has followed the rise of quick-serve Indian formats in recent years, and another storefront along Piedmont would further expand lunchtime choices near Lenox. For diners looking for an Indian quick-serve alternative to the usual sandwich chains, Sankranti would add one more option on a particularly busy stretch.
Recent closures and lineup
Directory listings and local reporting show that some of the brand’s earlier perimeter outposts have shifted over the past year, with at least the Dunwoody location marked closed on several aggregator sites. Listings such as Postcard and other online directories reflect that change in footprint. That churn helps explain why the company is now highlighting new Downtown and Buckhead addresses while keeping Tech Square as its active campus location.
What’s next
Sankranti’s locations page still shows the two Piedmont addresses as “coming soon” and does not provide firm opening dates. Sankranti offers the brand’s own confirmation of the planned sites, and What Now Atlanta reports that it has reached out to ownership for an updated timeline. For now, the next steps will likely show up first in permit activity and, eventually, an official opening date from the brand or the building owner.
