Sara Bareilles is set to bring a full dose of heartbreak and healing to Austin this fall. Her Good Grief Tour will hit Bass Concert Hall on Oct. 6 as part of a short coast to coast run in support of Good Grief, her first new album of original material in seven years and due Aug. 28. The tour announcement lands just as Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, the documentary chronicling the making of the record, is set to world‑premiere at the Tribeca Festival on Thursday.
According to CultureMap Austin, the Good Grief Tour stops at Bass Concert Hall on Oct. 6, with nearby Houston slated for Oct. 7. The fall routing opens in Boston on Sept. 9 and closes in Seattle on Oct. 19. CultureMap also notes that a touring production of Waitress, the Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Bareilles, will play Bass Concert Hall Oct. 21–23, giving Austin audiences two chances to hear her songs this month.
Good Grief: The Record And Collaborators
Bareilles has set Good Grief for release Aug. 28, with preorders and merch already live on her official site, according to Sara Bareilles' site. The announcement describes sessions tracked quickly with longtime collaborators and features contributions from Brandi Carlile, Andrea Gibson, Ingrid Michaelson, Joe Tippett and Megan Falley, among others, and notes Bareilles produced much of the record herself, according to The Music Universe. "My deepest hope is that Good Grief provides some kind of comfort or catharsis," the announcement quotes Bareilles as saying.
Tickets, Presales And Where To Buy
Artist, Verizon and Citi presales begin on Monday, June 8, with general on‑sale scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. local time, according to JamBase. Tickets will be available through primary ticket sellers and venue box offices once sales begin.
Charity Tie‑ins And VIP Packages
The tour includes a charity component. Bareilles and promoters have partnered with PLUS1 so that 1 dollar from each ticket sold will be contributed to The Jed Foundation, and net proceeds from VIP upgrade packages will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness, according to reporting on the announcement. The charity tie‑ins are billed as part of the show's broader outreach tied to the album's themes of loss and recovery.
Documentary Debuts At Tribeca
The making‑of film Sara Bareilles: Good Grief is scheduled to make its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival this week, per the festival listing, and the film pairs a screening with a live appearance from Bareilles. Industry coverage says the documentary follows the band during the short, intense sessions, largely tracked at Dreamland Recording Studios in Woodstock, that yielded the new album.
Between the album, the film and the short fall run, Austin will get two versions of Bareilles this October: the solo concert and the Broadway‑style Waitress production at Bass Concert Hall, making it a packed month for local fans.
