Scottsdale’s The Mick Brasserie is packing up its lively French brasserie vibe and Wine Spectator recognized wine list for a second act in Gilbert, signing on for a roughly 4,400 square foot restaurant with an outdoor patio at Higley Commons. The new outpost will mark the popular spot’s second Valley location and is expected to open early next year.
Lease details and timeline
The Mick has inked a 4,400 square foot ground floor lease, plus patio, at Modera Higley Commons, with the deal brokered by the Schillne Retail Team of ORION Investment Real Estate. The Gilbert location is slated to open by the first quarter of 2027, according to inBusinessPHX. Local radio outlet KTAR first spotted news of the expansion last week.
Part of a mixed use community
The new restaurant will sit within Modera Higley Commons, a Mill Creek Residential project at 3071 East Ray Road that includes 276 apartment homes and about 19,000 square feet of ground floor retail just off Loop 202 near SanTan Village, per Mill Creek Residential. The community is billed as a lifestyle focused development, with courtyards, pools and street facing shops meant to serve residents as well as surrounding neighborhoods.
What the brokers and owners say
“Higley Commons presents an incredible opportunity to introduce that same energy and experience to Gilbert,” broker Carol Schillne said, according to inBusinessPHX. Owners John Krause and chef Brent Menke added that The Mick was “envisioned as a neighborhood gathering place where guests could connect over great food, wine and hospitality.” The comments make it clear the restaurant is being positioned as a key amenity for the new mixed use project.
The Scottsdale original
The Mick’s flagship sits at 9719 North Hayden Road in North Scottsdale, where it has built a reputation for a wine forward program and travel inspired, French colonial dishes, according to the restaurant’s website. Chef Brent Menke and restaurateur John Krause lead the concept, which leans into a hospitality heavy, neighborhood brasserie feel.
Retail mix and neighborhood context
Mill Creek’s leasing update shows Modera Higley Commons has lined up seven retail tenants, including California Closets, Playa Bowls, Pvolve, Bodybar Pilates and GoodVets, with about 85 percent of the retail space now spoken for, according to a Mill Creek release distributed via PR Newswire. The mix points to a blend of service, fitness and food operators aimed squarely at day to day needs for residents.
Who negotiated the deal
The Schillne Retail Team with ORION Investment Real Estate represented The Mick in the lease negotiations, while Mill Creek handled landlord marketing for the project. ORION highlights the Schillne team as an active retail brokerage group across the Valley, a familiar pairing for new Modera properties looking to balance local and regional tenants.
Additional details on the Gilbert location, including firm opening dates, menu specifics and hiring plans, are expected as the build out moves ahead. For now, the signed lease locks in another upscale dining option for Gilbert’s fast growing southeast Valley.
