Late Tuesday night, a quick ice cream stop at a Dairy Queen on Flat Shoals Road near Decatur turned into a crime scene after reports of an apparent shooting in the parking lot. DeKalb County police were called around 10:15 p.m., and a Channel 2 photographer at the scene spotted a vehicle with a window that appeared to be shot out. As of early Wednesday, police had not released any information about injuries or possible suspects.
Scene and initial response
According to WSB‑TV, officers responded to the strip-mall area just after 10:15 p.m. Channel 2's photographer reported seeing a vehicle with a shattered window in the lot. The station said it had reached out to DeKalb County police to learn whether anyone was hurt but had not yet received confirmation. WSB noted it would update its coverage as new details emerge.
Flat Shoals corridor has seen repeated violence
The Flat Shoals and Wesley Chapel corridors have seen several late-night shootings this spring, leaving residents and business owners increasingly on edge. Hoodline recently reported in a May piece titled Nighttime Gunfire Rocks DeKalb McDonald’s that another fast-food spot along the corridor was hit by gunfire. In January, FOX 5 covered a shooting at a Family Dollar on Flat Shoals Parkway. Together, the local reports point to stepped-up law-enforcement focus on the corridor after multiple separate overnight incidents in recent months.

DeKalb County officials are asking anyone who was nearby, or who has video or photos from the Dairy Queen area around the time of the reported shooting, to contact investigators through the department’s anonymous tip system. Per the DeKalb County Police Department, residents can submit anonymous tips through the DKPD app or by texting the keyword “DKPD” and their tip to 847411. Investigators say tips and shared footage can be crucial for moving a case forward when there are few eyewitnesses willing or able to speak.
