The showdown at the West Broadway entrance ended with the pair retreating and sprinting for a waiting car, while the guard kept his grip on the door.
According to the New York Post, the guard is 34-year-old Tyrell Gibbs, who works at the vintage boutique Rebelonging. The shop posted the footage on Instagram, thanked its security team, noted it had been open for about a week, and asked followers to help pick out the suspects’ license plate after they took off in a white Acura headed toward Canal Street.
Short but chaotic scuffle caught on camera
In the video, two masked individuals rush the boutique entrance as Gibbs lunges into the frame, throws his weight against the front door, and forces it shut. Gibbs told the New York Post he was “just trying to keep that door closed,” adding that his athletic background helped him hold the line during the brief struggle.
Guard leans on football training and years on the job
Gibbs, who was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Harlem, said he has eight years of experience in security and hotel service, along with a history of playing youth football. Friends noted that he also models when he is off the clock, and the shop credited him with preventing what could have been a larger loss during one of its early days in business.
Shop hunts for tips as neighborhood hits replay
The boutique has urged anyone who recognizes the suspects or the vehicle to come forward and said it is reviewing footage to pull a usable license plate image. Rebelonging, which runs popups and vintage sales around the city, did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
