Two men were arrested after what police describe as a violent robbery at a South Memphis convenience store last Saturday that left the victim with head injuries. The suspects allegedly demanded items from the man's backpack, assaulted him, and walked away with a rifle.

Police Say Quick Check Robbery Turned Violent Fast

As reported by WREG, Memphis police say 28-year-old Quishon Rhodes and a second man, identified as Rico Campbell, confronted the victim at a Quick Check in South Memphis on Saturday. Officers allege the pair pointed a rifle at the victim and two others, told the man to hand over what was in his backpack, and that Rhodes slammed the victim on his head while Campbell removed a rifle from the bag. Police say the rifle was worth about $800 and that the suspects fled before officers later arrested them.

Quick Check's Rough Year On Alcy Road

The Quick Check on the Alcy Road corridor has seen other violent calls this year. In January a separate attempted robbery there ended with a clerk firing at a suspect, Action News 5 reported. Hoodline also ran a January item about that daylight attempted robbery at the Alcy Road Quick Check, and local coverage has flagged the stretch of Alcy Road as a frequent crime spot.

What Happens Next In Court

Quishon Rhodes faces two counts of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery and was committed to jail Wednesday. He is due in court Friday morning, WREG reports. Police identified the second suspect as Rico Campbell, who is being held on $50,000 bond and is due back in court July 6. Authorities have not released additional details and say the investigation remains active.
