A Saturday night clash in the Spanish Lake neighborhood of north St. Louis County erupted into gunfire, leaving one man wounded and a familiar north-county block back under police lights.
St. Louis County police said the shooting unfolded around 8:30 p.m. in the 11100 block of Riaza Square, where a group altercation ended in shots fired and several people running from the scene while officers moved in to secure the area and start their investigation.
Police Say Wounded Man Drove Himself To Hospital
According to St. Louis County police, the trouble started at a nearby convenience store, then spilled into the parking area as tensions escalated. One man was shot and, instead of waiting for an ambulance, he self-transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, as reported by FOX 2.
Officers told FOX 2 that multiple people took off after the gunfire, while detectives detained several others for questioning as they processed evidence at the scene. Police have not publicly identified the wounded man or anyone brought in for questioning.
Riaza Square Block Already On Investigators’ Radar
The 11100 block of Riaza Square is no stranger to police activity. The same shopping-center stretch has been tied to previous shootings and homicide investigations in recent years, according to RiverBender and police records, which show investigators repeatedly returning to the area as they probe violent incidents.
Detectives Working Leads, Reviewing Video
Police said no other injuries were reported at the scene. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage as the investigation continues, according to FOX 2.
St. Louis County police have not released the name of the wounded man and have not said whether any charges are forthcoming. Investigators are urging anyone with information about the group altercation or the shooting to contact detectives as the case remains active.
