A Chicago Police Department squad car and a pickup truck collided outside a gas station at 31st Street and Halsted Street in the Bridgeport neighborhood early Wednesday, sending two officers and the pickup's driver to the hospital.
The crash happened at about 5:25 a.m., according to witnesses and aerial footage from the scene. Both officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals. The 28-year-old pickup driver was transported to Stroger Hospital and was expected to be OK.
What police say
According to ABC7 Chicago, CPD said the marked squad car had its emergency lights activated as it traveled northbound when it struck the eastbound pickup. Video published by the station shows a black pickup with heavy front-end damage and Chopper 7 over the scene at about 6:50 a.m. It was not immediately clear whether any citations or charges would be filed.
How this fits for CPD
This collision is the latest in a string of crashes involving Chicago Police vehicles in recent months. Hoodline previously reported similar incidents, including an April collision where a speeding SUV slammed into a marked squad car. See the earlier report: April crash in West Garfield Park.
