Late Saturday night, DeKalb County police flooded a Stone Mountain shopping plaza, stringing crime-scene tape across part of the lot while investigators worked the area. A Channel 2 photographer captured images of multiple patrol cars and a crime-scene investigation van parked in front of the businesses, and social media users quickly flagged the heavy police presence. As those photos circulated, officials had not yet released any public details about what drew officers to the scene.
Photos show heavy response at Rockbridge Road plaza
Images posted by CrimeWatchAtlanta show a line of patrol cars, a crime-scene investigation van and yellow tape outside the Stone Mountain Shopping Center at 7184 Rockbridge Road. The caption calls out several storefronts in the strip, including a Domino's and a Family Dollar, and credits a Channel 2 photographer for the shots.
Channel 2 says it will follow up; details limited
The Instagram post notes that WSB-TV plans to air an update, adding, "Watch WSB Tonight at 11 p.m. for more on this story." The caption also says Channel 2 has reached out to DeKalb County police for comment, but it does not specify why officers responded in such large numbers.
How to report tips or footage
If you were in the area or captured video, DeKalb County is asking people to send in anonymous tips through its Tip411 system by texting DKPD to 847411 or by using the department's online tip portal, as outlined by DeKalb County. Officials say the service allows investigators to communicate back and forth with tipsters while keeping the sender's identity hidden.
A troubling pattern at local plazas
Late-night parking-lot incidents and large police responses have become an unwelcome theme at DeKalb shopping centers in recent months, a trend we highlighted when officers swarmed a nearby plaza earlier this year and after a June response at a Lithonia Chevron. Those scenes and others have prompted repeated police calls for video and tips as detectives work to piece together what unfolded.
Hoodline will update this story once DeKalb County or local broadcasters release additional information. If you were in the area and saw anything, consider sharing what you know through Tip411.
