A St. Louis judge has signed off on arrest warrants for two men accused of opening fire on a person during a June 4, 2023 drive-by in the city’s Baden neighborhood, marking the first major court movement in the case since the shooting on the 700 block of Ponce Avenue.
According to FOX2, the warrants name 24-year-old Anthony A. Anderson and 27-year-old Amir M. Abdullah-Raheem. St. Louis Metropolitan Police submitted probable-cause statements in circuit court, and a St. Louis Circuit Court judge signed the documents, clearing the way for potential arrests.
The filings state that the Circuit Attorney's Office has charged both men with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. The warrants allow bond, FOX2 reports. If proven, those charges carry serious penalties under Missouri law.
What police say
Investigators allege that Amir M. Abdullah-Raheem fired at a person who was inside another vehicle. They also say that Anthony A. Anderson, identified as the driver of a Dodge Challenger, then fired additional rounds at the victim and the victim's vehicle. Those details are laid out in the probable-cause statements filed with the court.
Legal implications
Under Missouri law, armed criminal action applies when a felony is committed with a dangerous instrument or deadly weapon and can add significant consecutive penalties to any underlying conviction; see the Missouri Revisor of Statutes. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office prosecutes state-level felonies in the city and will be responsible for pursuing the case if arrests are made and charges are formally filed.
Next steps
The newly signed warrants set up the next phase in the 22nd Judicial Circuit, where any arrests would be followed by formal court appearances and additional filings as the case moves ahead.
