A late-night visit to an apartment near the Davidson County line turned deadly early Thursday when a 24-year-old man was fatally shot inside a unit at 570 Church Street E, according to Metro police. Investigators say the man had been visiting a 25-year-old friend when the two got into a struggle and a pistol went off, killing the visitor.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are now working to piece together what happened inside the apartment. Police say the 25-year-old resident declined to be interviewed in detail at the scene, and no charges have been placed so far while the investigation continues.
In a press release from Nashville.gov, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said the victim has been tentatively identified as a 24-year-old local man. The Medical Examiner will confirm his identity. According to the release, the 25-year-old resident told officers the two "got into a struggle over a pistol which went off," fatally wounding his guest. Homicide Unit detectives are continuing to investigate.
String Of Violent Cases Keeps Homicide Detectives On Their Toes
The Church Street shooting lands on an already crowded docket for Nashville investigators. Earlier this week, detectives arrested a suspect in a downtown shooting that left a 12-year-old boy dead, according to WVLT. That case, along with other recent incidents across the city, has added pressure to MNPD's homicide unit as detectives juggle multiple active investigations.
How To Help Investigators
Detectives are asking anyone with information, photos, or video tied to the Church Street shooting to contact Metro Nashville Police at 615-862-8600 or use the department’s online reporting tools. For residents keeping an eye on broader trends, MNPD maintains a public Police Data Dashboard that maps fatal and nonfatal gunshot injuries across the city so the community can track patterns as investigations move forward.
