New Orleans is getting another shot in the national spotlight. The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host a College Football Playoff semifinal on Friday, Jan. 15, 2027, putting Caesars Superdome back at the center of the college football universe. The CFP and its broadcast partners have released the full 2026–27 broadcast map, locking in kickoff windows, network assignments and the national title date in Las Vegas. Local bars, hotels and traffic planners can now pencil in another postseason stretch that runs from mid‑December through the championship game in late January.
CFP Broadcast Map Locks In Superdome Showcase
Per the College Football Playoff, the Sugar Bowl semifinal is slated for Friday, Jan. 15, with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff (6:30 p.m. CT). The game will be simulcast on ABC and ESPN, giving New Orleans a prime-time window in front of a national audience.
The same release also sets the 2027 CFP National Championship for Monday, Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The CFP said additional "Megacast" and streaming details will be announced later this year, so fans who like to watch with multiple angles, alternate feeds or stat-heavy presentations can expect more options as the season approaches.
What This Means For New Orleans
The Sugar Bowl committee is treating the semifinal assignment as another major win for the city's hospitality and sports economy. In the bowl's announcement, Jeff Hundley, CEO of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, said, "From the organization's beginnings, the Sugar Bowl Committee has strived to bring the best game possible to New Orleans," per Allstate Sugar Bowl.
According to the organization, the first six CFP games played at the Sugar Bowl combined for more than 122 million television viewers and generated an economic impact exceeding $1 billion for the region. A semifinal in 2027 keeps that money-and-eyeballs trend rolling for the city.
How To Watch
The broadcast plan gives the Sugar Bowl semifinal to ABC and ESPN, while TNT Sports will carry several other Playoff windows and stream select games on HBO Max and truTV, College Football Playoff scheduling shows. One game per round will be simulcast on both ABC and ESPN, which expands reach beyond cable-only lineups. Broadcasters said more streaming windows and studio coverage details will be rolled out as kickoff nears.
