Surprise just picked up a serious new lager hangout. Head Right Brewing Co. quietly opened its lager-first taproom and kitchen on May 20, giving the West Valley a dedicated spot for crisp, easy-drinking beers and a tight, grill-forward food menu. The brewery comes from founders Tom BoBo, Rocky Arredondo and brewmaster Andy Harden, who previously brewed at Four Peaks Brewing Co.
The team spent years turning a former plant nursery into a 3,500-square-foot taproom tucked inside an industrial shell on Waddell Road, debuting with a full bar and compact kitchen. As reported by Phoenix New Times, the opening setup leans into a modest, beer-centered lineup and offers plenty of seating for sports fans and dog owners.
“We are a lager-first (brew)house,” Arredondo told Phoenix New Times, adding that the desert heat helped shape the approach. The piece notes that early taps included a Vienna-style lager, a Mexican amber, an "enhanced" light lager loaded with electrolytes and B vitamins, a blood-orange wheat, a golden ale, a session IPA and a hazy IPA, along with a guest pour from Wren House Brewing Co.
What To Expect On Tap And On The Plate
Head Right’s kitchen keeps things classic with bar snacks, soups, salads and sandwiches. The signature Head Right burger lands with beef-tallow fries, and it shares menu space with starters like nachos and a Caesar salad. The brewery’s current food lineup and summer hours, including beer-only service on Mondays and Tuesdays, are listed on Head Right Brewing Co..
Where The Brewery Sits
Head Right occupies 14312 W. Waddell Road on a roughly five-acre parcel. Commercial property listings put the building at about 38,400 square feet, according to LoopNet. The address falls along the growing Waddell Road and Loop 303 corridor, which city materials describe as an expanding retail and restaurant zone, per the City of Surprise.
Built To Brew And To Grow
Inside, Head Right pairs a five-barrel pilot system with a larger 20-barrel brewhouse, a setup the company says allows for small-batch experimentation while scaling up the hits. The founders also advertise contract-brewing services and room for packaging as they look ahead to canning and regional distribution, details shared on Head Right Brewing Co..
For Surprise and the broader West Valley, Head Right arrives as a lager-forward option with a working kitchen and enough production muscle to eventually put more local cans on store shelves. The roomy, industrial taproom and dog-friendly patio aim to function as a neighborhood hangout for catching the game and, on clear afternoons, watching jets slice in from nearby Luke Air Force Base.
