A block of North State Street in Addison turned into a police hot zone Sunday morning as officers moved in on an active investigation and urged the public to steer clear.
Addison police asked people to avoid the 300 block of State Street while they worked the scene, and traffic and pedestrian access around the area were disrupted during the response. Officials released few details about what was happening, focusing on keeping people out of the immediate area.
Video from the scene showed what appeared to be tactical officers gathered outside a residential building. According to ABC7 Chicago, police described the situation as “ongoing police activity” in the 300 block of State Street and asked residents to stay away. The station reported that no additional information was available.
Earlier Emergency Response In The Village
Sunday’s response follows a high-profile emergency in May, when Stone Elementary was evacuated and nearby roads were shut down during an investigation that officials described as a potential swatting call, according to NBC Chicago. That May incident drew a broad police and school response and stands out as the most recent example of a large-scale emergency operation in the village.
