A routine late-morning drive on Talley Road turned deadly Friday when a passenger vehicle and a semitruck collided in far west Bexar County, killing 25-year-old Katelyn Carreno and sending two other people to the hospital. The crash unfolded shortly after 11:30 a.m. on June 5 in the 2000 block of Talley Road, and the Bexar County Medical Examiner later ruled Carreno’s death an accident, citing blunt-force injuries.
Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene just after 11:30 a.m., where a car and a semitruck had crashed, according to KSAT. Two additional people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the Medical Examiner’s Office told the station that Carreno died from blunt-force injuries and that her manner of death was ruled an accident.
Scene and response
In the aftermath, Bexar County deputies shut down Talley Road in both directions near Highway 211 while emergency crews worked the crash site, clearing debris and documenting the wreckage. The sheriff’s office alerted the public to the closure on Facebook, which mySA reported contributed to a messy traffic backup on the Far West Side as drivers were forced to reroute.
Talley Road growth and safety questions
The stretch of Talley Road where the crash occurred sits in the middle of a fast-changing corridor that has been drawing both developers and road engineers. One proposal would pack Talley Road with 300 luxe townhomes near Alamo Ranch, while the county has separate plans to widen portions of the roadway, according to engineering firm Halff. Residents and planners have raised concerns that new traffic volumes are pushing older two-lane sections to their limits, and that crashes involving large commercial vehicles underscore the difficult balance between enforcement, road design and sheer capacity.
Investigators have not yet said whether anyone will face charges in connection with the crash, KSAT reported. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 210-335-6000, according to Bexar County.
