Starting Monday, June 22, the main stretch of the road will close to through traffic for roughly 60 days while crews lower the pavement and try to fix a tricky line-of-sight problem near its intersections with Cook Lane and Cedar Ridge Road. County officials say the goal is straightforward: make the intersection safer for motorists, even if it means a couple of months of hassle.
The temporary closure, expected to last about 60 days, will give work crews time to lower the roadway by roughly three feet to improve sight distance at the junction, according to WSB-TV. The station reports that the work starts June 22 and that the affected segment will be fully shut down while crews are on site.

During the closure, Cedar Ridge Road will still be reachable from the east end of the work zone, while Cook Lane will be accessible from the west. A temporary detour will push drivers out of Coweta County and into Fulton County via Sardis Church Road, Hutchesons Ferry Road and Shell Road, according to the WSB-TV report. Detour signs will be posted to help drivers navigate around the closure.
What drivers should expect
Motorists should plan for heavier traffic on nearby connectors, including Highway 29, and build in extra time for commutes while the shutdown is in effect. Residents and businesses inside the work zone will generally keep access from the ends of the closure, but through traffic will be diverted for the duration of the project.
