A 65-year-old Alexandria man was killed Thursday night after a motorcycle crash near St. Mary’s Cemetery, a collision that turned an otherwise routine summer evening into a fatal scene at a busy county intersection.
The crash happened around 7:04 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 45 and Latoka Drive SW. First responders rushed the rider to Alomere Health, where he was later pronounced dead. Douglas County deputies and Alexandria police remained at the site as investigators worked to sort out how the collision unfolded.
Crash details and emergency response
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Alexandria police responded to the intersection, and deputies reported that the motorcyclist had suffered severe, life-threatening injuries before being transported to Alomere Health. The other vehicle involved was driven by a 16-year-old Alexandria resident, according to Echo Press.
Summer riding and state safety trends
Crashes involving motorcycles typically climb during the warm-weather months, and Minnesota sees dozens of rider fatalities each year. Safety officials regularly push basic precautions such as helmet use, rider training and extra caution at intersections, where visibility and timing can turn deadly in a split second.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s motorcycle-safety program highlights rider education and motorist awareness as central prevention tools. That includes tips that urge drivers to actively watch for motorcycles and encourage riders to complete training courses and refresh their skills. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety notes those ongoing statewide efforts.
Investigation ongoing
Douglas County officials have asked the Minnesota State Patrol to assist with a reconstruction of the crash. North Memorial Ambulance, which was already in the area when the call came in, arrived within minutes.
The sheriff’s office says the cause of the collision remains under investigation and has not released additional details, according to Echo Press.
