Two separate late-night shootings just minutes apart in Sanford’s historic Goldsboro neighborhood left one man dead and another seriously injured early Sunday, police said. Officers were called to two locations along Historic Goldsboro Boulevard shortly after 3:20 a.m., and detectives stayed at the scenes into the morning to process evidence. Sanford police described the incidents as isolated and said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
What police say
Sanford police identified the man who died as Deion Fields and said he was killed by gunshot wounds. A second person was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, according to WESH. Investigators are still working to determine whether the two shootings are connected as they interview witnesses and review video and physical evidence from both scenes. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to help move the investigation along.
Where it happened and how to help
One shooting occurred near Historic Goldsboro Boulevard and Pomegranate Avenue, and the other near Historic Goldsboro Boulevard and Mangoustine Avenue, both within the Goldsboro historic district. The Sanford Police Department and Central Florida Crimeline are asking neighbors to check any available doorbell or security camera footage, and Crimeline is accepting anonymous tips at 800-423-TIPS (8477). Additional detail
Officers also encountered an individual who had a firearm and was taken to a local hospital for a mental-health evaluation, a detail first reported to reporters by WESH. Sanford police have not said whether that person is being treated as a suspect as detectives continue their work on the case.
