What started as a routine traffic stop late Friday afternoon in Peachtree City turned into a high-speed, multi-county chase that only ended when deputies used a PIT maneuver on State Road 74 in Tyrone. The fleeing car, a Nissan Altima, was forced to a stop, and three men were taken into custody. All remain jailed, and one passenger now faces identity-fraud charges on top of drug counts tied to the stop, authorities said.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the chase kicked off around 4 p.m. when an officer spotted a suspicious drive-out tag on the Altima. Before emergency lights could even be flipped on, the driver hit the gas. The car then shot into an active construction zone to dodge standstill traffic, ran several red lights and threaded through rush-hour congestion as it left Fayette County for Coweta County. Peachtree City officers stayed on the trail while deputies from neighboring agencies jumped into the pursuit.
How the pursuit ended
Fayette County deputies finally shut it down with a PIT maneuver on State Road 74 in Tyrone, spinning the Altima out and bringing the chase to an abrupt stop. All three occupants were taken to the Fayette County Jail, where booking lists show they are being held without bond. Per the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the men remain in custody while charges are processed. Coweta County’s sheriff resources highlight the department’s jail operations and interagency coordination, which local officials say helped track the fleeing vehicle as it crossed county lines.
Charges and evidence
Inside the Altima, investigators say they found a bag stuffed with fake IDs and credit cards. All three men were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the suspects were identified as 39-year-old Ryemeice Johnson of College Park, 39-year-old Jonathan Alexander of East Point and 35-year-old Matthew Sullivan of Raleigh, North Carolina. Sullivan faces additional counts of identity fraud, financial identity fraud and financial transaction card fraud, and authorities say one suspect is awaiting extradition to an out-of-state agency.
What happens next
Prosecutors are now reviewing the evidence and will decide on formal charges, while extradition paperwork is expected for the suspect with out-of-state warrants. The Peachtree City Police Department highlights a dedicated traffic division and community safety programs on its site, which officials say guide everyday enforcement actions such as checking suspicious tags. Investigators have asked anyone with video or information about the chase to contact law enforcement so they can piece together additional witness accounts and digital evidence.
