Sean Charles Greer will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after a Broward judge on Thursday sentenced him to 73 years for a 2021 Wilton Manors hit-and-run that killed three children and injured three others. The packed courtroom was filled with grieving relatives who delivered raw, emotional statements before the judge announced the punishment.
Judge Imposes 73-Year Term
Circuit Judge Andrew Siegel handed down the sentence at the Broward County courthouse. According to court records and reporting by the Sun Sentinel, the 73-year package is a mix of consecutive and concurrent terms and will run at the same time as a previously imposed 35-year sentence. The outlet reports that Greer apologized in court and told the victims' families he hoped they could find some measure of peace.
How The Crash Unfolded
The deadly crash unfolded on the afternoon of Dec. 27, 2021, when a vehicle driven by Greer allegedly tried to pass a Broward County Transit bus, jumped a curb on Northwest Ninth Avenue and plowed into a group of six children on the sidewalk. Two of the children were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third died of her injuries in July 2022. Reporting by the Miami Herald details the victims' names and ages and the sequence investigators laid out after the crash.
Police Investigation And Arrest
Detectives traced a damaged Honda to Greer two days after the crash, after matching physical evidence at the scene to the vehicle, the Broward Sheriff's Office said in a release. The agency lists the crash site as 2417 N.W. Ninth Ave. and says Greer later confessed to being the driver. That account remains the backbone of the charges he ultimately faced in court.
Courtroom Moments
Inside the courtroom, relatives of the young victims wore matching T-shirts, held signs honoring the children and spoke through tears as they addressed Greer directly. One mother told him, “No one cares about your upbringing,” according to coverage by Local 10. Defense attorneys asked Judge Siegel for a 35-year sentence, while prosecutors pushed for a longer term. The judge ultimately sided with the tougher approach and imposed the 73-year package.
Legal Fallout
According to the Sun Sentinel, Greer pleaded no contest earlier this year to 15 criminal counts. Those include three counts of vehicular homicide along with multiple counts of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, leaving the scene with serious bodily injury and tampering with evidence. The outlet reports that the judge structured the 73-year punishment using a series of consecutive terms that still run concurrently with Greer’s existing 35-year sentence.
For the families, the sentence delivers a formal measure of accountability after years of grief and court delays. The survivors and the wider Wilton Manors community are still working to rebuild their lives in the shadow of the crash, while Broward court records now permanently document the judgment and sentence.
