A late-night round of gunfire turned deadly early Sunday at the Park at 500 apartments on Hambrick Road in DeKalb County, where police found a woman shot to death and a wounded suspect nearby.
Officers were called to the complex, located in the 500 block of Hambrick Road, around 2 a.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a woman who had been shot and was dead at the scene. A suspect was later located close by, injured and taken to a hospital, and the case remains very much active.
According to Atlanta News First, investigators confirmed the victim died from a gunshot wound and said detectives were processing the scene through the night. Authorities have not released the woman’s name, any potential charges, or details about the relationship between the victim and the suspect as they continue to track down leads. Detectives are canvassing the complex and working through possible surveillance footage and witness statements.
Scene and investigation
The Park at 500 complex, just off Hambrick Road south of Memorial Drive, is no stranger to official scrutiny. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Dangerous Dwellings project lists the property, previously known as Clifton Glen, among locations in the 500 block of Hambrick Road and Old Front Street tied to multiple criminal reports and county code citations.
That history has kept both neighbors and local officials on edge whenever something violent erupts on the property, and Sunday’s shooting only adds to those concerns. With another investigation unfolding at the complex, police activity overnight drew fresh attention to a site that has already been under the microscope.
How neighbors can help
Per local coverage, DeKalb County detectives are again asking residents to help fill in the gaps. Anyone with information about shootings in this area can contact investigators anonymously through the department’s Tip411 system. Neighbors can send tips using the Tip411 app or by texting "DKPD" to 847411, a tool highlighted in prior Hoodline coverage of incidents along Hambrick Road.
Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from people who were in or around the complex overnight, as well as anyone with doorbell or dash-cam footage that might have captured movement before or after the 2 a.m. shooting. Even small details, they say, could help tighten up the timeline.
Investigation status
Atlanta News First reports that DeKalb County police have not released any identifying details for the woman who was killed or the injured suspect. Detectives are still working the case, processing evidence and following up on leads.
This remains a developing investigation, and officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
