An apparent fight at an East Somerville playground ended with a victim covered in blood after three young males allegedly smashed a bottle over the victim's head, according to police. The incident happened Monday, July 20, and Somerville officers later shared the account in their weekly public updates.
According to Facebook, officers were called to Chuckie Harris Park around 8:43 p.m. for an assault and arrived to find the victim covered in blood. A witness told police the victim had gotten into a fight with three young males before a bottle was smashed on the victim's head.
Somerville Police surfaced the incident in a weekly crime log for July 14 to 20, posted July 29 on the Somerville Police Department website.
Another Serious Report At The Same East Somerville Park
The July assault came a little more than a month after another serious police report at the same park. In a separate log, the department described an armed robbery-style encounter involving drinking in the playground after dark.
In a June 9 to June 15 weekly entry, the Somerville Police Department said a person who had invited three males to drink at Chuckie Harris Park on June 15 reported that one of them pulled a knife, held it to the victim's stomach, and took a scooter and backpack.
The two entries involve different reported conduct, and police have not said they are connected. The latest log does not list an arrest or charges in the bottle assault, leaving the identities of the three young males and the victim's condition unclear. Taken together, though, the back-to-back listings show Chuckie Harris Park turning up in the crime log more than neighbors might like this summer.
