What started as a basic traffic stop in Athens ended with a murder suspect in handcuffs, after an Athens-Clarke County officer realized a passenger in the car was wanted in another state, according to police.
Officer First Class Calderon pulled the vehicle over and discovered that one of the passengers had an active out-of-state warrant for murder. That passenger was arrested on the spot. Authorities have not said what traffic violation triggered the stop, and they are not yet naming the person who was taken into custody. Still, the case is a reminder that everyday enforcement work can sometimes pull very dangerous people out of circulation.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department shared the story in a social media post and credited Officer First Class Calderon for catching the hit on the murder warrant.
