Eighteen dogs are now out of a neglected property in central Georgia and in the hands of animal rescuers after the Atlanta Humane Society intervened in Twiggs County near the Bibb County line.
The rescue was reported Thursday night, with FOX 5 Atlanta identifying the location but providing few additional details about the dogs’ condition, the property’s owner or whether anyone faces charges.
Atlanta Humane Expands Its Emergency Rescue Work
The operation appears to fall under Atlanta Humane’s Operation Humane initiative, which the organization launched to respond to neglect, abandonment and large-scale animal rescues across Georgia. The group says the program is designed to move animals to safety quickly, provide medical stabilization and support local shelters and communities with limited resources, according to an Atlanta Humane Society update.
The Twiggs County case is the latest large rescue involving the organization this summer. In a separate July operation, Atlanta Humane said it was helping rescue 23 dogs living outdoors in dangerous heat in southeast Georgia, with some showing serious mobility problems including hip dysplasia, as reported by WSB-TV.
Details On The Dogs’ Recovery Remain Limited
