A wanted person allegedly rammed two Atlanta police cruisers, hit two other vehicles and then bolted on foot through Little Five Points Thursday afternoon before officers boxed in the area and made an arrest. No critical injuries were reported, but the suspect’s original warrant and possible charges remain unclear.
Atlanta Police Department officers located a possible wanted person inside a vehicle near Euclid Avenue and Moreland Avenue at about 3:29 p.m., according to the Atlanta Police Department. When officers tried to box in the vehicle, police said the driver rammed two patrol cars and took off.
The brief pursuit ended near North Avenue and Moreland Avenue after the vehicle struck two additional vehicles, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. The suspect fled from the crash, but officers established a perimeter and located the person, taking them into custody without further incident.
Police Have Not Identified The Suspect Or Underlying Warrant
The department has not released the suspect’s name, the offense connected to the original warrant or an estimate of vehicle damage. The Atlanta Police Department said its account is preliminary, charges are pending and the investigation is continuing.
Little Five Points Has Seen Pursuit Safety Scrutiny
Thursday’s crash unfolded in an area that has already been tied to debate over police pursuits. Axios Atlanta reported last year that a Georgia State Patrol pursuit on Moreland Avenue in Little Five Points ended in a crash that killed 19-year-old Cooper Schoenke, prompting renewed scrutiny of high-speed chase policies.
