A six-year-old Bartow County girl who was days away from starting first grade has died after complications from a routine tonsil surgery, leaving her Euharlee school community grieving a child remembered for looking after everyone around her.
Emersyn Bridgers was a student at Euharlee Elementary School and was scheduled to begin first grade next week, according to Atlanta News First. Bartow County Schools described her as “one of a kind,” while her teacher called her “little momma” because of the care she showed her classmates.
Family Fundraiser Seeks Help With Funeral Costs
A family fundraiser says Emersyn died Monday at age 6 after undergoing a routine tonsillectomy. The GoFundMe campaign, organized on behalf of her mother, Candi Baker, was raising money for funeral and burial expenses and had collected $9,461 from 189 donors as of Friday.
Public accounts did not immediately provide further details about the medical complications. Bartow County Schools asked the community to keep the Bridgers family in its thoughts and prayers, as the school prepares to begin a new year without the student her teacher said helped care for others, Atlanta News First reported.
