Gunfire on Crotona Avenue sent a 25-year-old woman to the hospital Thursday night, after police say she was shot in the stomach outside a Belmont apartment building and three suspects took off running into the streets.
What police say
Officers responded to a shooting outside 2309 Crotona Ave at around 10:34 p.m., according to News 12 New York. Police found the woman with a gunshot wound to the stomach, and EMS rushed her to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
Investigators told News 12 New York the violence appears to have started as an argument that spiraled into gunfire. Police say three men are being sought in connection with the attack and were last seen running down Crotona Avenue on foot. Detectives are asking for any surveillance footage or eyewitness tips that might help identify them.

The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents in the neighborhood this year, including a broad-daylight attack in April that wounded a 21-year-old. Many of those victims, like Thursday's, have been taken to St. Barnabas, highlighting how often the hospital ends up treating people caught in neighborhood gunfire.
