A 21-year-old Dorchester man is facing a murder charge after Boston police say he deliberately hit a man riding a motorized scooter on Saturday afternoon along Blue Hill Avenue, then drove off as the victim lay gravely injured. The rider was rushed to a local hospital and later died, and investigators are treating the crash as a homicide.
According to WCVB, officers responded at about 2:28 p.m. to the collision at Blue Hill Avenue and Castlegate Road. Police identified the accused driver as 21-year-old Jhonny Ruiz Soto of Dorchester and said he intentionally struck the scooter rider, then fled north on Blue Hill Avenue toward Seaver Street.
Officers later found Ruiz Soto and the vehicle near Blue Hill Avenue and American Legion Highway, where he was taken into custody, WCVB reported. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and died there. Police also said the scooter was removed from the scene by an unknown man and has not been recovered.
