Several people were injured yesterday afternoon when a boat exploded and caught fire at a Harrison Township marina, sending at least three people to local hospitals. The blast struck during the height of the summer boating season along Macomb County’s waterfront.
The explosion happened around 1:10 p.m. at the Tow BoatUS gas pumps on South River Road, according to CBS News Detroit. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said several people were hurt, with at least three transported for treatment.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the explosion and fire. Officials said there was no indication that foul play was involved, leaving the cause under investigation as authorities assess the boat and fueling area.
Harrison Township Has Seen Another Boat Explosion
The incident echoes a separate Harrison Township boat explosion in September 2025 that injured three people, including two children who were aboard the vessel. In that case, a previous Hoodline report also prompted a response from the sheriff’s Marine Division and an investigation into the cause.
Authorities have not released the identities of those injured in yesterday’s explosion or detailed the severity of their injuries. Further information is expected as the investigation continues.
