A quiet Sunday night shopping run turned tense in Forsyth County when a bomb threat forced deputies to evacuate the Walmart at Highway 9 and Commerce Boulevard. Customers and employees were moved out of the building while law enforcement searched the store and the surrounding parking lot. Later that evening, deputies reported that the search was complete and the scene had been cleared.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office told WSB-TV the large response stemmed from a bomb threat at the store. According to the station, the department’s public information officer issued an update around 8:40 p.m. confirming the scene was clear, after a significant police presence converged on the location while deputies secured the building.
Not the only scare in metro Atlanta
This was not the first bomb-threat scare to rattle a metro Atlanta Walmart this summer. On June 24, Barrow County deputies used license-plate readers and a real-time crime center to track a suspect after a similar threat, then brought in K-9 teams to sweep the store before it reopened, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Hoodline's local coverage of that case noted how quickly officers moved to clear the scene and get operations back to normal.
What tools deputies can deploy
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office lists a Real Time Crime Center, Special Operations and K-9 teams among its available resources, according to its website. Those units can be called in for suspicious-package or bomb-threat calls and help coordinate searches and share information with neighboring agencies during fast-moving incidents, per the department’s online resources at the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
Where to get updates
WSB-TV's report did not indicate whether investigators had identified a suspect or made any arrests, and the outlet said officials had not released additional details at the time of publication. Residents with tips or questions are encouraged to watch for official updates from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and follow local news outlets for any new developments.
