New Orleans police are asking for the public's help tracking down a man they say slipped into a New Orleans East home in the middle of the night and was caught on camera. Investigators report the break-in happened around 1:32 a.m. on June 9 in the 4400 block of Gawain Drive, where surveillance video recorded the intruder inside the house. Detectives have identified the man as Kendrich Mackie (DOB 05/08/1986) and say a warrant is already on file for his arrest. Neighbors are being urged to review their own camera footage and to contact detectives if they recognize the man in the images.
According to NOPD News, the security footage shows Mackie committing the residential burglary, and investigators secured a warrant after reviewing the video. Police released a photo of the suspect and listed the Seventh District detectives' tip line as 504-658-6070. They also pointed to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans for anonymous information at 504-822-1111 or 1-877-903-STOP.
Suspect linked to separate mid-June case
In an earlier, unrelated case, detectives had already named Kendrich D. Mackie in a June 7 aggravated battery-by-cutting on Werner Drive and had issued a BOLO and a warrant tied to that incident, according to midnight Werner Drive cutting. The two recent NOPD bulletins suggest investigators are looking at Mackie in connection with multiple New Orleans East incidents, although there is still no public record of formal charges related to the June 9 burglary. Police continue to emphasize that members of the public should not try to confront the suspect and should call authorities instead.
How to report tips
Anyone with information can reach Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070, while anonymous tips may be submitted to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or 1-877-903-STOP. The department's July 1 release, which also included a suspect photo, reminds the public that, in its words, "all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty," according to NOPD News. Police say anyone with immediate, urgent information about the suspect should call 911, and all other tips should go to the Seventh District tip line or Crimestoppers.
